SHINE LIKE THE SUPERS: ‘90s Style Nostalgia is Dictating Current Bridal Gown Trends

While styles continue to evolve over the years, there’s always a tendency for trends to recycle themselves.

Just think about jelly shoes. They’re popular once again, but the design has changed. You can now get jelly boat shoes! But “what goes around comes around” is not just applicable to the general fashion scene. The wedding industry has such cyclical patterns as well. As young adults, who never experienced the ‘90s, plan weddings, they are taking inspiration from one of the most pivotal times in modern history. The popularity of old school romcoms is an added driver.

Whether your favorite romcom is My Best Friend’s Wedding or The Wedding Singer, or you take inspiration from the famous supermodels of the ‘90s, there is going to be a beautiful dress for all personalities. Laurie Baynard, owner of L Bridal Couture, says selections right now are “very ‘90s romcom with a lot of satin/Mikado, clean lines, Basque waists, drop waists and sleek styles. The ‘90s had great wedding style, so I’m happy to see us trending in that direction again.”

Sara Lasher, wedding and event planner, says there will be a significant number of halter dresses to choose from, along with cat-eye necklines, brocade textures and lace gloves that reach the elbow. And the colors don’t always have to be bright white. Soft, pastel-colored gowns continue to slowly gain popularity.

Lasher says brides are aiming for vintage romance vibes, “but not vintage in the same way we’ve seen in the past.” Expect brides to favor silver jewelry over gold accessories to amp up the “storybook romance vibe,” she says.

Baynard indicates brides in Southwest Louisiana usually prefer classic, fitted styles, but in 2026, there has been a 50/50 split between fitted dresses and full ballgowns. “It isn’t very often you can wear a ballgown. One of the gowns we just ordered at market is very on trend but still classic.”  (See middle photo.)

A personalized veil completes a wedding looking like nothing else can, blending tradition and modernity. Baynard says at L Bridal Couture they’ve introduced embroidered veils to their product line. “Brides can get their new last name or wedding date added to their veil, which is really special,” she says.

As far as other accessories are concerned, Baynard mentions gloves and chiffon or tulle capes are popular. Brides also have the opportunity to add sleeves to their dresses—off-the-shoulder, beaded, flutter, lace and pearl. Introducing removable details can not only customize a dress but allows a bride to have two looks in one. The extras can be worn for the ceremony and removed for the reception if desired.
