It happens every year. You feel that first little bit of crisp fall air and instantly want to transition to a fall wardrobe.
That can look different for everyone, but camel, dark brown and burnt orange are common neutrals found in almost everyone’s wardrobe. Even if you’re satisfied with what’s in your closet, a girl needs at least a couple, or 10, new pieces to celebrate the change in season. (We’ve earned it with the historic heat this year.)
Asymmetrical garments add personality to an otherwise basic outfit. The eye is drawn to pieces that imply movement, so when you choose an asymmetrical dress, skirt or top, be prepared for compliments on your outfit. The asymmetry is further enhanced this season by lace details or opposing fabrics.
Tired of crew necks and collared shirts? Boatneck tops bring back the elegance of Audrey Hepburn. Simply by changing the neckline of a blouse, you can change the whole personality of an outfit. Boatneck tops look chic, can be paired with a headscarf and elongate the neck. If you’re a fan of French girl style, a boatneck shirt is one simple item to add to your collection.
Dropped waist dresses are not just popular in the bridal industry. You can find plenty this fall and winter for that wedding you have to go to or for a holiday gala. A dropped waist silhouette lengthens the torso, so the shape is not for everyone.
With a renewed interest in period, gothic romances this year, the obsession with flowy, lace black dresses is only growing. Whether you’re looking for a lingerie-inspired garment or a sophisticated yet sexy ensemble, you can find a lace LBD in all silhouettes and styles. Spoiler: These dresses are perfect for date night.
Cherry red will be the standout color this year. Expect plenty of accessories, such as handbags and shoes, in this brighter shade of red to add a vibrant pop of color to outfits. Red makes a statement any time of year, but during the colder, gloomier days, the perfect red can make you feel alive again.
Forget minimalism. Statement accessories have returned. Think large and colorful ‘80s style earrings, large necklaces that transform an outfit or a ring so large it covers multiple fingers. Jewelry this season is meant to stand out and spark conversations. Feel free to go as bold as you want to.
Leather gloves, not necessarily the kind that are meant to keep your hands warm but will do the job anyway, are the accessory of the season. Varying in lengths from elbow to opera, these gloves are all about adding an edge to your outfit. Cons: You won’t be able to text with these on.
Slouchy boots are overtaking sleek, tall boots. They give an effortless vibe to an outfit that says, “I just slipped these on and left the house.” They are perfect for those who like boho style. But before you buy, ensure the boots have enough of a structure for the shaft to stay in place.
The ballet trend is continuing its evolution. First, we started with ballet flats, then we had ballet heels and now ballet sneakers are lighting up the market. Puma, Adidas and Keds all have their own versions, so you can take your choice between something a little dainty like a satin sneaker or one that will hold up a little more to dirt and wear and tear.
Celebrate cooler days from head to toe with these tips!
