August 2026
Back to School Means Back to Germs
August 2026You’ve got the outfit and the makeup for the tailgate and the football game. But how do you fix your hair to withstand SWLA humidity if you don’t know the best practices in an atmosphere that can often feel like hot soup?
Ally Crooks and Kylie Guillory, two stylists and product ambassadors at Signatures Salon, share their advice on how to keep your hair looking as cute at the end of the day as it was at the beginning.
Ally says the best way to great hair is to ensure your strands are as healthy and hydrated as possible. If the starting line has a good foundation, it’s easier to get better results when styling. “I always recommend using a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, followed by Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer to protect from heat and humidity before styling. Blow-drying the hair smooth helps seal the cuticle and gives you the best chance of fighting frizz.”
Both Ally and Kylie agree that a good blow dry session helps lock frizz out. Ally recommends “a good blow dryer with a concentrator nozzle, a round brush, and a quality flat iron or curling iron. Product-wise, I love Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer, Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Long Last Styling Cream, and finishing with Spray de Mode or Keune Freestyler Spray to help keep styles in place without feeling stiff.”
Partial and full updos, such as buns and ponytails, are classic styles and perfect for girls who want to keep hair away from their face. It you want to take the cuteness up a notch opt for braided styles, including bubble braids, especially for evenings when you want to enjoy the youthful feelings that often come with the whimsical hair style.
“Know your hair” is the single most important piece of advice Ally and Kylie give. While Ally encourages embracing your natural hair pattern, Kylie advises discovering what the main struggle with your hair type is. You can use a lot of hair spray to hold a style, but the best way to ensure your hair will last the night is to start with healthy hair and use appropriate products for your hair needs. “A simple routine will always last longer in Louisiana’s humidity than using a lot of heavy products,” Ally concludes.
