How to Assess and Address Joint Pain
September 2026Jerilynn Marque, LPN, LMT, BCTMB, La License #9815, founded Elevation Massage Therapy to provide medical massage services for physician referrals and personal injury case from attorneys.
Marque says, “I wanted to create a massage clinic that allows therapists to come in and provide their specialized services without the restrictions that spas and chain massage businesses impose. I also didn’t want an expansive menu. The therapist and client decide what services will be provided, including hot stones, aromatherapy, deep tissue, trigger point work, stretching, cupping and more. We also accommodate pregnant women, clients with dementia and those with past history of sexual abuse/trauma.”
At Elevation Massage Therapy the goals are massage should be available everyone. The therapists offer relaxation and clinical massage, and the business is registered with the Louisiana State Board of Massage, LA 4904. Massages available include:
• The rapid stress relief massage, which utilizes percussion technology and application of heat, ice or topical pain cream for quick stress relief or focusing on a targeted area.
• The prenatal massage, which includes specially designed massage tables, cushions and side-lying postures used to prevent putting pressure on the abdomen.
• Customizable massage, including hot stone, hydro/thermotherapy, Swedish, deep tissue, cupping and passive stretching.
Massages can help the body function better and heal properly. At Elevation Massage Therapy, therapists will ask what you’re looking for in a massage, explain what they will do and how it will help with any problems or concerns you’re having to ensure you’re feeling your best every day.
Here is an overview of the treatments Elevation Massage provides and what each one does:
Deep Tissue Massage – It is used to break down knots and relieve pressure points throughout the body. This massage is beneficial for athletes and those who sit for long periods of time.
Swedish Massage – The goal of Swedish massage is to melt away muscle tension and increase the blood flow to your heart. It is extremely therapeutic as it decreases muscle toxins, increases oxygen levels in the blood and improves flexibility in the body.
Hot Stone Massage – Hot stone massage is often paired with Swedish massage. Stones are heated and used with oils to sooth, warm and massage your muscles. This allows your body to relax and release tension and stress.
Thermotherapy/Cryotherapy – Thermotherapy and cryotherapy are often used in therapies for specific injury. They are also used to soften tissue and prepare for deeper massage modalities. They also can be used to change the sensation of pain and help with the healing process.
Cupping Therapy – Cupping therapy is an ancient form of complementary medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.
Aromatherapy – Aromatherapy is the practice of using the natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant to enhance psychological and physical well-being.
Modified Massage – Modified massage is used when a person cannot receive a traditional, face-down table massage or they have special requests due to medical or mental health related reasons. Special pillows and other accommodations are made by the therapist to make sure that everyone can safely receive a therapeutic experience. This may include pregnant women, people receiving cancer treatments, people under hospice care and survivors of sexual assault/abuse.
Hot Bamboo – Hot bamboo sticks and rods are used similarly to hot stones. The bamboo can be used to manipulate tissues with heat and are shaped in a way that can be rolled along muscle groups and used with leverage against areas of the body to provide very deep pressure.
Trigger Point – Trigger or tender points are defined as a tender localized hardening that lies in the palpable taut band within a skeletal muscle. They happen more frequently with muscles that are overused or remain contracted for long periods. Special attention can be given to these with deep, sustained pressure, either with the therapist’s hands or with specialized trigger point tools.
